Why am I not motivated?
Lack of motivation to do anything is affecting my life! Why am I not motivated? My motivation lasts only for a few days then I lose all the enthusiasm that I have!
Lack of motivation has been known to be among the top reasons that stop people from reaching their goals in life. Lack of desire, impatience, and procrastination set in, usually after a short period of time and then, the individual starts to lose motivation to reach his or her goals in life.
John gets very excited every year when the school starts. For the first a few weeks he studies hard and is very determined to get all A’s in his classes. Unfortunately, after a few weeks in the semester, his lack of motivation sets in and he starts being indifferent, starts to procrastinate, and his desire to get high grades diminish. Then he begins to ask the same popular question again, How to motivate myself?
Causes for lack of motivation
There are many causes that contribute to the person’s not being motivated to do anything, here are some of these causes:
- Lack of desire
- Indifference
- Not having clear goals to pursue
- Not having a purpose in life
- Procrastination and laziness
- Impatience
- Lack of confidence in one’s self
- Seeking people’s approval
- Fear of failure
- Negative thinking
- Focusing on obstacles
If lack of motivation is causing you frustration, then you need to start changing your mentality. Realize that you are doing great harm for yourself when you stop being motivated, and you also need to look for new ways to motivate yourself and become enthusiastic about your goals.
As I mentioned in my book “the ultimate guide to achieve your goals” that being motivated and having a burning desire is very necessary if you want to achieve great goals in life. Without having strong desire, you are likely to give up as soon as you face an obstacle.
Now that you are aware of the causes and reasons why you are not motivated, you can start to read about the different ways and methods to motivate yourself.
When you become motivated to achieve a goal, you will enhance your happiness and you will achieve an inner satisfaction. Unlike people who lack motivation, keep complaining and blame everyone for the kind of life they have.
Only when you are motivated, you will be able to persist and never give up on your dreams and goals in life.

How to develop a burning desire to achieve success?

Very, very good post Dia with a real time example we can all recognise. It is easy to get that initial buzz of belief and have a mind full of determination which soon ebbs away because we need to continue every day staying in that zone, resisting seeing setbacks as nothing more than urging us on to accomplish what we know is inside us and coming into being. Keeping the faith is what this is! Love this post, great message, congratulations for super writing Dia!!

Dia,
Yes, we must have a burning desire before we are likely to achieve great things. When we uncover what we want more than anything and connect with this purpose, no matter what obstacles come in our way, we will find a way around them. For me, staying patient and content as I work toward my aspirations is the hard part. But, my motivation always returns as I visualize my desired future.

Hi Dia,
I like all the causes of not being motivated. Searching for the cause is the first step towards living a motivating and fulfilling life.
My biggest method to stay motivated is to find the biggest why to what I am dreaming about.

A healthy dose of inspiration might do the trick Dia. You can only really be motivated if you really want to do something. As you have said, having a clear plan for what you want to do/ achieve is a great starting point. Whether that be a series of goals or a particular direction you want to take, there’s got to be “that carrot” to make you move. Otherwise you run around in circles wondering what the hell is going on.
be good to yourself

Hi Dia,
I often struggle with motivation but much less than before. I remember the normal pattern where I get all my stuff ready, I buy all the best equipment and materials then when the time comes to take action I just am not motivated or I only stay motivated for a few days. I find that most of the time I lose motivation is because I lack a goal or I am not seeing the results I want, that’s why it’s important to set goals and mark down your progress.
Thanks for this post.

In some way or form, we have experienced “lack of motivation”. …and you pretty much summed up the reasons why we are not motivated. For me, my biggest challenge has been “fear of failure”. It is so engrained in our culture that we need to be no. 1! I have been blessed to have created a good support system of friends and family members who tell me that being no. 2 or no. 635 is ok… and at the same time, they encourage me to be the best that I can be… not what I should be… but who “I” can be!
My friends and family are my greatest motivators.

Hi Dia,
Motivation definitely comes from within, but certainly we can add incentives to motivate someone, such as a child. Positive reinforcement can help, such as rewarding ourselves for focusing on a task and seeing it through to completion. Writing down our goals helps as well. Wonderful post to inspire motivation.

Indeed Dia. Clarity is a big one! Motivation will naturally ebb and flow, but if we are not clear on what we are up to we can be sure low energy will dominate our days. Foggy ideas give rise to visions of our supposed weaknesses; we sap our creative strength when we do this to ourselves.
