Who controls your thoughts?

 Who controls  your thoughts?  Your parents?  Your friends?  Can you control your thoughts? 

 The answer to these questions will define how well you control your emotions.  You must know that no one can control your thoughts, other than you.  Every feeling that you have is the result of your thoughts. You can’t have a feeling without having a thought first, hence controlling your thoughts is the only way to control negative emotions. 

Some people live a miserable life because of the way people view them or what they tell them. They think that the way people see them or what people think of them makes them angry or upset. If their boss tells them that they are not doing a good job, for example, they will say, “the boss pissed me off.“ You must know that if you get affected by what people think and say about you, that is the result of your own choice and no one else. 

To control your thoughts, you have to practice switching the negative thoughts to positive ones.  Many people think that they are not responsible of how they think, hence, they live in misery and pain. The truth is you are responsible of how you think and feel. It is how you interpret events and situations that make you live in pain.  For example, if someone says to you, “you are wasting your money by going on a vacation” can be interpreted in two different ways.   Some people interpret the sentence as “If I go on a vacation, people are going to start gossiping about me,” which is the negative interpretation.  Other people interpret it, “well, I guess these people are jealous, which is why they gossip and don’t want me to enjoy my vacation,” which is the positive interpretation.  Which interpretation and thoughts are you going to let in your head? If you choose to let in your head the negative interpretation, then you are saying to yourself that people control your life, thoughts, and mind.  If you choose the positive interpretation, then you are on the way to controlling your thoughts and living a positive and happy life.

Unfortunately, many people condemn these facts because they are used to thinking in a certain way for many years. They believe they have no control over their thoughts and emotions. When you start controlling the thoughts that enter your mind, you will be able to control your emotions and that would make you a great person and will make you live with inner peace.
