What is type A personality?

What is Type A personality?

What is the type A personality? Do you know what type A personality traits are? Do you have type A personality?

John got up late today, so he is very upset that he didn’t wake up on time. He rushed into the shower and when he got out to get dressed, couldn’t find the shirt that matches his pants, so he got frustrated as he is a perfectionist and everything has to match.

When John got to his work one hour later, he found an email from his manager informing him that he has to give presentation to one of the customers. He started to worry excessively about his presentation and if he is going to do a good job as he didn‘t prepare for it.

Does John’s story sound familiar to you? How many people you know that have excessive worry, love perfectionism, and base their self esteem on what they have?

How type A personality can affect your health

As I mentioned in my book “How to overcome worry and have peace of mind” that people with personality A type might suffer from excessive worry and anxiety more than others because they tend to be perfectionists, workaholics, and impatient.

Over time, people who have type A personality characteristics might experience excessive anxiety and worry which could have a negative effect on their health. As I mentioned in my previous article “How your thoughts affect your body” that you have to be aware of your thoughts and how you manage your life, so it doesn’t affect your health and body.

Help type A personality individuals

If you have type A personality and want to lead a balanced life with less worry and anxiety, then follow the quick guide below?

1. Create a balance

As I always mention in my articles and in my e-book “the ultimate guide to achieve your goals” that creating a balance in the 6 categories of life is essential if you want to lead a happy and successful life that is filled with peace of mind.

Just as you like and enjoy your work, make time for your family, children and friends. Make time for your health. Make time to work on your spiritual aspects. Creating a balance in your life is the key to success in life.

2. Develop good habits

Developing good habits is crucial for type A personality as it will help such person to deal with worry, anxiety and stress a lot better. For example, if you tend to worry and stress over minor issues like making a mistake at work, then learn to interpret situations and events in your life in a positive way.

Instead of focusing on the negative side of events and situations, you can start focusing on the positive side. If you make a mistake, then view this as a learning opportunity instead of a mistake.

By working on changing how you interpret situations, you are developing good habits that not only can free you from excessive and unwanted worry and anxiety, but also can help you lead a happier life filled with peace of mind.

3. Meditate

It is a well known fact that meditation will help you learn how to clear your mind from thoughts and it helps to give you peace of mind, which many people who have type A personality don’t have.

Schedule two sessions a day to meditate, each time for around 15 minutes. You will be amazed how your worry and anxiety decrease and how you learn to have peace of mind.

Have you ever wondered why some people are happy and have peace of mind while others keep worrying?  Why do some people’s life filled with worry while others filled with happiness and peace of mind?  My e-book How to overcome worry answers those questions and teaches you the scientific ways to control and overcome worry and have peace of mind.

I agree with Sibyl. Most of us have been pulled by the hectic disorders of society (yes, I blame them) and get ourselves this Type A personality. Yes, when we are frustrated and search for solutions, there are.

Norman Vincent Paele wrote about this type of people in his book ‘The Power of Positive Thinking’ and advised two things based on Bible. He said, pray and leave things to God. Do all you can and leave the rest. Since I’ve started following this idea, life is totally different and calm. IN fact, sometimes I feel like I want to have this adventurous rush for some time.

  2. Dia,

I definitely have A-type tendencies so your list is a big help. Creating balance is key for me to be certain that I don’t overdo it in any one area such as work, exercise, blogging, etc.

Sometimes being better aware of who we are leads to a happier life!

      Hi Alex,

I think most people have some characteristics of type A personality. The key is to create a balance, so we won’t experience excessive worry and anxiety. Thanks Alex

  3. Although I’ve certainly got a few type A qualities Dia, I’d like to think I’ve shifted to a more balanced mental state over the years. The one thing I’ve found about type A’s is that they don’t tend to listen very well, because they’re so busy thinking about what they’re going to say or do next, ya know what I mean. But in businesses, marketing, and sales; it’s critical we learn to communicate with these types of people.

    Always great stuff Dia.

Nice Dia. There is an important distinction to make. Seems to me a Type-A is driven by ego (the Artificial Self). We want to act from our Authentic-Self and have a Wonderful Obsession Winning (WOW). When we are serving our Authentic-Self (WOW) we set aspirations and aims that make life interesting and exciting and are joyfully preoccupied with making wise choices that add greater depth to our life.

      Hi Dandy,

Understanding ourselves is crucial. If we don’t know our personality and who we really are, then we can’t really develop and grow as human beings. Analyzing our needs and our goals is very important as well. Thanks Dandy :)

  6. Hi Dia,
By the looks of it doesn’t seem that I’m type A. Good to know. The three points you made seem great advice for any kind of personality but I can understand how Types A could benefit from them. I’m all for meditation regardless of our personality type.
    Beautiful tips. Loving blessings
