What is the best way to attain peace of mind?

Is attaining peace of mind an impossible task? Do you know how to attain peace of mind? What is the best way to attain peace of mind?

Attaining peace of mind is a goal that many people strive for, yet find it hard to really have a peaceful mind especially when they experience negative situations. If you are like most people, then learning about the different ways and methods to achieve inner peace is crucial to leading a happy and peaceful life.

Attaining peace of mind is not an impossible task, but it is challenging for most people as studies show that more than 80% of what most people focus on through out the day is negative.

Attaining peace of mind

There are countless ways to help you attain peace of mind as I mentioned in my book “How to overcome worry and have peace of mind.” so there is nothing such as best method.  However, in this article, I will mention 4 ways that if you implement them in your life, I guarantee you will be able to attain and have inner peace in your day.

1.  Become unattached

If achieving inner peace is a major goal for you then becoming unattached to what is happening to you in life is a very important skill that you must learn and acquire.

Often when people experience distressful situation, they stay attached to what is causing them anxiety and worry. The more they stay attached to the negative thoughts, the more they stay in their stressful world.

For example, if a student keeps attached to the result of his last failing exam, he will not be able to do well in his next test unless he becomes unattached to the low grade that he got in his previous exam. Becoming unattached will help the student attain peace of mind as his brain will be free from the negative thoughts.

2.  Focus on your goals

Focusing on what you want to accomplish in life is a great way to help you attain peace of mind and inner peace. When you focus on what you love, you are awakening the happy feelings and emotions within you to help you relax and get peace of mind.

3.  Meditate on your blessings

Jennifer mentions that every morning she goes over a gratitude list where she focuses on the blessings she has in life. Focusing on the blessings reminds Jennifer that she is a very lucky person and hence starts experiencing peace of mind according to her.

Let’s face it, meditating on the good things you have going for you in life is a great way to reduce anxiety and increase peace of mind within you. When you meditate and think about the blessings you have and offer real gratitude, the more you will start experiencing peaceful thoughts. Not only that, but you will also start realizing that you have abundance in your life. When you take your mind off the lack and start counting your blessings, a great sense of inner peace will take place in your heart.

Always remember what Brian Tracy said, “Set peace of mind as your highest goal, and organize your life around it.”

Have you ever wondered why some people are happy and have peace of mind while others keep worrying? Why do some people’s life filled with worry while others filled with happiness and peace of mind? It sounds attaining a peace of mind comes down re-focusing your thoughts away from the negative things that have affected your life and towards the the positive things. I think a lot of people really struggle with becoming unattached from those things that have caused them a lot of stress and it really prevents them from ever being happy or content with their life.

  4. Hi Dia,

Daily meditation is definitely one of the things that helped me the most in the last couple of years. It makes it easier to choose the good-feeling, more positive perspective in every situation I come across. I also agree that he technique of listing what we’re grateful for and spending a little time every day focusing on that list can be a powerful catalyst for change. Well done!

Very nice tips! Another good one is understanding your self worth and learning how to say “no”. Sometimes we do things for others so much that we forget about ourselves and in the process of forgetting about us…people have a tendency to complain about all the work they are doing for others. It quite okay to say “I’ll think about it or meditate on that one” before actually committing yourself to something you would much rather not be doing at all.

  6. Hi Dia,
attaining peace of mind is something that I had strived for many years. I have learned as you suggested in your post to remain unattached to what is happening outside of me. I view the circumstance as a “prop” or something that is not as threatening to my well being as it appears to be.

I say out loud everyday things that I am grateful for. This really helps me to stay appreciative to life.

It’s true, attaining peace of mind can really be hard to do especially if we focus on our worries and constantly think of negative things. You’re right, we should learn to move on from our past mistakes and focus on our goals. These are ways that I also try to practice and every night I think of all the things that I have that I’m grateful for.
Also, I’ve discovered that tying up loose ends in my life gives me a feeling of satisfaction and peace of mind.

Thanks for some sound tips on how to find and attain peace of mind. I know in the chaotic world in which we live in that finding peace during any activity we are involved in challenging and that’s why I value these tips so highly. The part I found most insightful was the idea of unattaching. I know personally I often find myself consumed by things that don’t matter. It’s time to start letting them go. Thanks for this great post.

    Hi Dia,
What stuck out for me was being unattached. This is something that I have been recently working on. Being attached to people, situations, emotions, material things, or desired outcomes is a setup for disappointment. Being attached has such a heavy feel to it. It is living in the past. Attachment, like any other habit can be broken. Meditation and not getting so caught up in the business of constantly doing are other big ones for me. :-)

Peace of mind is really hard to attain especially when we worry too much about the things we have. And I agree that being unattached is one way to have the peace that we want. If we attach ourselves too much it’s hard to let things go so we end up getting frustrated.

Thanks for your pointers and it is nice to know that I don’t need to go to India just to get peace of mind like Julia Roberts did in “Eat, Pray, Love.” I especially liked your third point. I have always believed that if everyone knew how to count their blessings then a lot of psychologists would be unemployed.
