Things to be grateful for in life

Things to be grateful for in life

What are the things you are grateful for? Do you take a few minutes a day to go over the blessings in your life?

Being grateful for the things you have in your life is something most successful people do consciously or unconsciously. In life, we usually take many things for granted. When we start to raise our awareness for the things that are in our life, we begin to focus on the blessings in our life instead of what we are missing. What a wonderful feeling this is…

As we approach a new year, I’ve gathered a list that we usually take for granted when in fact, we should be thankful and grateful.

Things to be grateful for in life

1.  Your life

Let’s face it, without being alive, you won’t be here.

2.  Food and water

If you are reading this article, then most likely you have food and water unlike the millions of people found in some countries who worry about what they are going to eat each meal.

3.  Family

Many of us take the people in our lives for granted. How often do you really say to yourself that you are lucky for having your parents, friends, and children in your life? Learn to express your love for your family and friends as they can be a true support for you.

4.  Having the love of your life

Most people want to find someone to share their life with. This is why the topic “relationships” is among the top searched topics on the internet. If you are one of these people who have found the love of their life, then you have a great gift that many people are craving for, so learn to be grateful for it.

5.  Health

Health is one area of life that we tend to forget about. Be appreciative of your health, for being able to walk, for being able to breathe, and for being able to eat healthy food.

6.  Car

How often do you give thanks for having a car? Do you know that there are millions around the world that can’t afford having one?

7.  Receiving a smile from a friend

A smile is contagious and it has a positive effect on us, yet many of us don’t pay attention when we get a real and authentic smile from our friends, families, and colleagues. Begin to consider every smile that you receive as a true gift.

8.  Peace of mind

If you are one of those people who enjoy having peace of mind and don’t have many struggles in life, then consider yourself blessed. Millions of people are too stressed over many life issues.

9.  The ability to breathe

Many people suffer from asthma and have a hard time breathing normally. If you can breathe normally, then begin to notice the gift that you have.

10.  Cell phones

A few decades ago, the idea of talking to someone on a phone was something impossible. Now, you can get in touch with anyone you want at any time.

11.  Your house

Learn to appreciate that you have a shelter over your head as there are millions of people who don’t have one

12.  Your job or business

There are millions around the world who don’t have a job or a business that they can rely on to feed themselves. If you have a job, then you are one of those lucky people.

13.  Freedom

Again if you are reading this article, the chances are you are free and not being enslaved by someone. Appreciate this gift that people have fought for in some countries for ages.

14.  Heater

If you live in a country where snow and cold are common like I do, then you would know what I’m talking about. Trust me, being cold in the winter is not fun and having a heating system to warm the house is something that many might take for granted.

15.  Clothes

There are many people who don’t have more than one or two outfit to change with. The chances are you have many clothes in your cabinet more than you need. Being grateful for your clothes is something we often forget to be appreciative of, so don’t take it for granted.

And the list goes on and on…

As you can see, we all have many things to be grateful for in life, so learn to take 15-20 minutes a day and meditate on these true blessings you have. Once you start being appreciative, more abundance shall be come your way. ;)

Thanks for the reminder. At the moment I can’t afford a car – I’m not sure I’d have one if I could. I like the rest of the list.

Great reminder for us all Dia. It so easy to take things for granted and I remind myself each day to be grateful.

Sometimes for no reason at all I say, “Thank You God.”

Good one, Dia. I make it a daily habit to give at least three appreciations. One for what I know I am grateful for (ie good health). One for that which I may take for granted (ie. fresh water, electricity). And one for that which has not occurred yet (ie new best selling book! :) )

Great list of things we so often take for granted but deserve our notice and appreciation. It’s funny how we often wait to go without (car, heater, love) before we really think about how grateful we are for them. So thanks for the often-needed reminder, Dia!

Great reminder to those who take the little things for granted.

Every day I thank God for things like just having another day on this earth, my home, all of my possessions, my car and how well it runs, my health, my family and their health, my friends and their health, my dog, my business, my wealth, the opportunities being presented to me, so many wonderful things I think a lot of us don’t even think about daily.

Thank you for sharing this with us Dia and I do hope you are having a wonderful week. I hope you have a Very Happy New Year and I’m looking forward to continuing our friendship in the new year.

    Best to you,

    ~Adrienne

  8. Dia,

Thanks for the wonderful reminder! We have so much to be grateful for if we’re willing to focus on these blessings. We live in a time where there is so much opportunity and abundance that we can experience fully. When we shift our focus from what we don’t have to what we do have it makes a world of difference.

This is a great post Dia. For me number 1 is the most important. Just being alive gives me so much energy. At times if I’m happy and smiling people will ask me why I’m smiling? I tell them “I’m alive!”. Some get it. Others don’t.

  10. Hi Dia,

What a wonderful list. It is so important to remember to be grateful each day. Thanks for the reminder.

    I love this post.

And I love how you mentioned about being grateful for even the small things such as breathing. Funnily enough i used to have asthma and used to have trouble breathing and even sleeping. This is a great reminder that we should be grateful for even the little things we take for granted.

  12. Hello Dia,

Congratulating you on winning the topmost among the top 50 personal development bloggers 2011 at Steven Aitchinson’s blog is what led me to this blog. I’ve read your About page before reading this article. Human mind can conjure up 100 reasons to be unhappy, to crib about but gets complacent when feeling grateful for all the good things life has given them. You have listed several key factors for which we should feel gratified every single day. Brought out quite crisply!

I have interest in personal development and in networking with other bloggers. Would love a critique based on your long experience. I may be interested in exchanging guest posts too but after you have had chance to see my blog over & form an opinion!
