How to stop being shy?
Do you want to stop being shy? Do you want to overcome shyness? How to stop being shy?
Shyness is a natural thing for most people and every person responds to shyness in a different way, however, if shyness stops you from doing what you like and want to do, then this means it is becoming a disease.
A person could feel shy for many different reasons such as giving a public speech, approaching someone, talking to a stranger among other things. If you suffer from such problem, then you have become a human being who can not perform what you want in your daily life.
What is shyness?
Shyness is fear and worry experienced by someone in front of others, which could lead the person to avoid social events and situations where one, must interact with others and that could affect your success as I mentioned in my book “the ultimate guide to achieve your goals.”
Symptoms of shyness and social anxiety:
1. Stuttering
2. Abdominal cramping
3. Tight muscles
4. Fast heartbeat
5. Lack of concentration
Most situations that people experience shyness:
1. Giving public speech
2. Job Interview
3. Oral examinations
When shyness becomes an illness:
1. When someone stops asking for his rights.
2. When someone does not express his opinions in front of others and accept their opinions instead.
3. When someone can’t have normal relationships.
4. When someone becomes depressed for not being able to interact with others.
How to overcome shyness:
1. You should know when your shyness is an illness and if you do have this problem, treat it before it gets harder to treat.
2. Start meeting new people and start talking to them with a loud, clear voice. Start giving short speeches to your family and friends, then you can practice speaking to people you are not accustomed to. Each time you give a speech, you are increasing the confidence in yourself and it will become a natural thing for you.
3. Start visualizing yourself before you go to sleep that you are talking comfortably to people.
The key to eliminate and overcome shyness is to challenge your negative thinking, which controls your mind. If you are able to challenge the negative thoughts and ideas in your mind, you will be able to eliminate shyness and lead a happy life.

Dia,
Great suggestions. I have a opposite problem, I am too extrovert. Some people are naturally shy but still confident people. Great topic.
Thanks Preeti, yea there are so many people that are shy, but confident, that is for sure
Great suggestions, I think improving self confidence and self esteem is key. If these are high, it is difficult to be shy!
It also helps to talk to as many people as possible, even it is just a comment about the weather. Just like everything, practise makes perfect:)
Thanks Kate, improving self confidence and self esteem help for sure. Also, practice is crucial if we want to get rid of shyness. The more we practice, the easier it gets.
Well, well, look who is back to work.
Welcome back stranger.
I really struggled with this in my past and I still have issues depending on the situation. These are some excellent things to do and consider to help you overcome this area in your life.
Great work!
Thanks Frank
I think most of us have struggled with shyness at one point in our life. The important thing is to work on ourselves to get over shyness when it becomes more like a disease.
hello dia,
how are you?
thanks for sharing this. i’d echo kates comments once again and that is practice and you can do that by taking risks, stepping up to people, getting out of your comfort zone, expressing yourself …..
take care and have a lovely weekend.
Hi Ayo,
How are you my friend? I hope you are doing well.
Absaloutly my friend practice is one of the best tools to get rid of shyness. Nothing can beat practice.
Hey Dia
Excellent tips here to overcome shyness. When I was growing up I was really shy, but like you mentioned here just getting out there and breaking out of my comfort zone, by meeting new people as I grew up helped out a lot. Nice post here.
Hi Baker,
I think most of us experienced shyness at one point in life. We have to get rid of our comfort zone to overcome shyness.
Hi Dia,
I’m so glad you wrote this important post. Shyness can be a real problem and hurt people terribely. I used to be almost pathologically shy. For me it stemmed from anxiety. I was on anxiety overload for years & it almost made me a shut in. Once I got help for my anxiety, I was much easier with people & putting myself in places where I could meet people. Your tips are right on point! Vizualizing yourself being at ease with people definately helps! Also challenging negative thinking & the negative things we often say to ourselves is a biggie!! Thanks Dia for this post!!
Dandy
Hi Dandy,
I agree with you, shyness hurt us in our social life and career. The best thing is to understand the causes of shyness and then work on changing shyness to something positive. Visualization for sure helps my friend.
