How to motivate myself

How to motivate myself

How to motivate myself? What are the ways that I can use to motivate myself?

Motivating one’s self is skill required for success in life. Without being motivated, you are likely to give up as soon as you encounter a few obstacles. Are you one of those people who give up due to your lack of enthusiasm and motivation?

When you are motivated, you have high energy, but when you are not, you don’t feel like accomplishing much.  You energy will be low, your performance will be poor, and you won’t be able to focus much on your desires.

How to motivate myself

To learn how to motivate yourself, follow the quick guide below:

1. Focus on the end result

One of the best ways that I use to motivate myself is by focusing on the end result and the happiness I will feel when I reach my goals. When I concentrate on the end result, I focus on the benefits, I feel the emotions, and I see myself living the life I want to live.

When my emotions and feelings are charged with positivity and my energy is high, I get motivated and excited to work on my goals.

2. Find a reason

One of the strongest motives to motivate yourself is that you have a reason.  This reason will inspire you and make you do whatever it takes to challenge all of the obstacles, so you can achieve your goals.

If your goals and reasons are normal, then you might get motivated temporarily, but it won’t last for long. The strong desires that make you think and dwell on your goals are the strong motives that will keep you moving forward as mentioned in “the ultimate guide to achieve your goals.”

3. Take charge of your mood

One of the most important methods that I use to motivate myself is taking charge of my mood and how I feel. Most folks allow daily events and circumstances to decide how they feel which is why most don’t feel motivated to reach and achieve their goals.

One of the best ways to be in charge of your mood is done through physical and mental relaxation. When you clear your mind from all the clutter, you are then able to manage and control your mood swings and once you do you will start to become motivated to pursue your goals.

4. Stop comparing yourself to others

Comparing yourself with others is an effective way if you want to become aggravated.  Often when you compare yourself to others who have accomplished more than you, you end up getting stressed and feeling bad.

Comparing yourself to others is the enemy of motivation.  Even if you began with enthusiasm, you will lose energy quickly if you start to only focus on what others accomplished and feel bad about it.

The only comparing you should be doing is assessing your progress and comparing now with how you were in the past.

5. Learn from your experiences

When you concentrate and dwell on your previous mistakes, you are killing your motivation.  On the other hand, learning from your mistakes and your past can help to motivate you since you know what to avoid.  Treat each day as a new day.

These are the steps that I always follow when I want to motivate myself and they’ve helped me a lot. I’m sure if you used them effectively, you will be able to motivate yourself as well.

For me, number 2 – find a reason – the most important.

When the ‘why’ is big enough, the ‘how’ will come easily.

      Hi Marc,

Having a reason is necessary if we want to achieve something badly enough. When we have a reason why we want to achieve something, then we are most likely to be motivated which will lead us to taking action. Thanks Marc

I have a problem with number 4, I’m always comparing myself to others, Then it seems like they have more than me and are more successful. Thank you for this post. Well put :) I look forward to more posts. Keep it up! Have a great day.

      Hi Rachel,

No matter what we do, we will always find some people who are more succesful than us, so it is better for us to accept such fact. When we focus on giving our best and reaching excellence, then we are leading a healthier life. We should be happy for the prosperity of others, never feel resentful towards such thing. Thanks Rachel

It is easy to motivate yourself if you are really interested with it. If you want to achieve all your dreams and goals in life, you should probably make the right decision and come up with an idea on how you will change your life into something positive.

    Hey Dia,

Great post here! It’s always important to know how to snap out of our being in the gutter. If we don’t then I could only imagine how much time we’d be wasting. #4 really hits me though. There are times when I come to a point in life that my dreams are still pretty far away, I tend to start comparing myself to someone who has achieved it already. I’ve pretty much gone over that feeling simply because I surround myself with people like you. People who are motivated and who are willing to give people a wake up call and an extra push when in need. Thanks for sharing this! Keep it up! 😀

Yep surrounding ourselves with positive people is crucial. When we are in a positive environment, we will keep moving forward until we achieve our goals. Thanks PJ

  7. We had a discussion about this at lunch the other day. That morning we were all working on some mindless tasks and asked how do people motivate themselves to do this kind of work?

My boss said, she would usually set goals for herself to see how many packets she could make in a certain time frame and see if she could beat it.

I think goals are the key to motivation, along with mastery, autonomy, and passion.

Appreciate you pointing this out so well.

You know motivation is my thing Dia, so I really liked it and how you made it almost a step by step skill that can be learnt and grows. I think the core of motivation is No.2 – a meaning, a reason, something driving you, a hook, an emotive touchpaper lighting the dynamite of action. Be that something you wish to leave behind, or a goal to move towards, holding it powerfully in your mind and senses gives your efforts the necessary rocket fuel to shoot for the moon.
