How to deal with Stress
Do you feel stressed? Is stress affecting your life? How do you deal with stress?
Stress is simply the response of the body and mind in reaction to events or external influences. Many people go on with their day feeling stressed from their jobs, house work, life events, and responsibilities to their families. It is crucial that you know what type of situations make you stressed, so you can learn how to manage stress and anxiety.
Dealing with stress
To learn how to deal with stress, follow the quick guide below:
1. Talk about how you feel
When you feel stressed and feel that there is something bothering you, talk about it with your father, mother, husband, wife, friend, or anyone else who is close to you. Expressing your emotions helps reduce stress and in many cases, you will discover ways of how to deal with it.
2. Take a break
One of the best things you could do when you feel stressed is to take a break. Take a long walk and then you can come back and solve any problem that you feel stressed about.
3. Help people
If you always find yourself worrying about yourself, try to help others to take the focus off of yourself. Help put a smile on someone’s face. You will be amazed how this small move will affect you.
4. Stop taking things seriously
Remember that stubbornness and taking things seriously all the time will hurt you and will not benefit you. It is better for you and your body to start taking things lightly, so you can avoid stress.
5. Stop multitasking
Many times people try to multitask and do more than one thing at the same time. While multitasking is good in some ways, it is better to focus on one task at a time, so you won‘t get overwhelmed. To stop multitasking, you have to learn
time management skills and how to prioritize.
6. Stop criticizing others
Some people get stressed if someone like their partner or child doesn’t do what they ask of him and if that person fails to fulfill their expectations. Remember that everyone has his own abilities, values and everyone does mistakes. It is part of humanity. Instead of criticizing someone, try to look for the positive qualities that they possess and help them improve themselves.
7. Meditate
It is no secret that meditation is one of the best methods used to alleviate stress as it helps you take your mind off the current stressful situation and helps you to clear your thoughts.
Always remember what Richard Carlson said, “Stress is nothing more than a socially acceptable form of mental illness.”

Great points. I think #1 is particularly important. I also think we men have a harder time expressing our feelings, because we lack the emotional vocabulary and are not as good at that as women. So there is an important opportunity for improvement.
I also liked a lot the Richard Carlson quote. I’ll try to remember it when I’m in the middle of a roaring crowd in the street!
Hi Nacho,
Yea expressing our emotions for sure helps. Women tend to express their emotions more than us men, however, we should learn to express our emotions more often as it will help reduce the stress.
Well this couldn’t have come at a better time. I know that right now are feeling the pressure that the holidays bring on. We feel a need to get it perfect. We feel the need to take on more than what we normally carry. I like that you advise to talk about it. Yes, if we feel stress, it is important to talk it out and ask for help. Also I think it’s important not to take on more than what we can handle. I’ve learned that if someone else wants to help out during the holidays, say yes! Great advice, thanks!
Hi Dandy,
For sure talking about it helps. We also shouldn’t take on more things that what we can handle. Prioritizing is crucial in this regard.
Love this list Dia…I really like the idea of helping others. There’s something magical about changing our focus from ourselves to the needs of others…when we do, our worries somehow disappear…Great list man, thanks for sharing.
Hi Marcus,
For sure my friend, when we focus on helping others, our worries and the stress we are feeling disapppears. It is the energy that affects us. What we give is what we get back.
Dia,
Great list, thanks for sharing! I think stress appears in my life and thinking when I forget to take a break and don’t take time out to really relax, refresh, and have some fun. I also think that constant multi-taking can really take its toll as well. We all just need to learn and recognize stress in our life, and take proactive steps.
Hi Joe,
Yea, that is why we have to create balance in our life. Taking a vacation from time to time, having some fun, going for a long walk are all ways that help reduce the stress that we feel in life.
Hi Dia,
I especially like the Help People point. As you mention, if you take the focus off yourself and focus on helping others, your stress will be reduced significantly. I know that from experience after helping out with charitable work this year.
Best,
Bob
Hi Bob,
For sure my friend, helping people takes the focus off ourselves and reduces stress. It is one of the best methods used.
Meditation has always helped me a lot. Silence, Silence, you can’t beat silence.
Hi Jonathan,
Meditation for sure helps. It helps to calm our minds and have peace of mind.
Dia,
These are some timely tips on how to deal with stress. Each one of these have the potential to change your day if you take the time to do them. I also in addition to this list take some time and do something I really enjoy. When I get really stressed I write, play sports or video games. Just make sure it is something that will not make you more stressed.
Hi Frank,
Yea for sure playings sports, writing among other things are good to relieve stress. The important thing is that we relax ourselves.
I work too hard on the computer, that’s for sure. I’ve found one of the best ways to alleviate stress is by just getting outside and going for a long walk. I’m not into meditation, but I suspect walking has a similar effect. Just puts your mind into a completely different state, and allows you to “stop trying”. I always feel better after doing this.
