How to become persistent in life

How to become persistent

Are you persistent? Do you do whatever it takes to achieve your goals? Do you know what the power of persistence can do? How to become persistent?

For the past three weeks or so, the Egyptian people have been persistent to achieve their goals to gain freedom, to topple Hosni Mubarak and his regime, and to change the constitution of their country.

Despite all the obstacles the Egyptian people encountered during the revolution in 2011, such as violence, cutting off internet, opening fire on protestors, and arresting Egyptian blogger Wael Ghonim and others, they stayed persistent and challenged all the obstacles they encountered because they had a strong desire to achieve their goals.

Lessons the Egyptians teach us about persistence

1. You need to persist to achieve success

2. You need to have strong desire to achieve your goals

3. You need to have strong belief in your capabilities

4. You need to have great concentration and focus

5. Everything is possible in life

If you run into an obstacle, try again until you get what you want. As long as you are still alive, then there is a chance for success and you will succeed if you put your mind to it. As I mentioned in my book “the ultimate guide to achieve your goals,“ many people are too close to success, but do not get what they want and desire because they are not persistent.

How to become persistent

If you want to learn how to become persistent, follow the quick guide below:

1. Face your fears

If you want to be persistent, you have to face your fears. Many people tend to give up on their goals due to their fears. Challenging your fears is one of the major keys to becoming persistent. Remember, had the Egyptians gave up in the face of fear from Hosni Mubarak’s regime, they would have never persisted and never achieved success.

2. Become internally motivated

Research shows that when you are internally motivated, you will have stronger change to stay persistent. Ask yourself some questions:

  • Why do you want to achieve this goal?
  • What are the benefits you will gain?
  • Do you want this goal more than anything else?

I personally always focus on the end result. When I focus on the end result, I become internally motivated, and this helps me to persist whenever I face an obstacle or a challenge in life.

3. Practice

When you start practicing the art of persistence, it will become a habit of yours. As you probably know, practice helps to form a habit. The more you practice, the more the habit becomes ingrained in you and becomes second nature. ;)

A terrible situations that the Egyptians are going through. But, a great learning that comes as a result. It’s kind of crazy how we often learn our greatest lessons from the least ideal situations. There’s a lesson in everything if we chose to notice it. I think you notice them all the time Dia…it’s starting to happen within me too.

Thank you for sharing this with us and offering us a powerful lesson to be persistent in life…because our persistence can carry us over the hump where our achieved goals reside.

Good use of the Egypt situation Dia; even when Mubarak said he’d step down in September, even when he said he’d move the election forward to August, the people didn’t give up. 18 days after it had begun, and serious change has now begun to take place.

Even if it had gone on longer than 18 days, I have a feeling the protestors would have kept going. They would have gone as long as it took for them to be heard, and for this I admire them :-)

  3. Hi Dia! Wow, lessons from the Egyptians. I can’t argue with ancient wisdom, they knew their stuff. I specially like #3. Believing, having faith, and trusting are very important to achieve whatever is it that you want in life. There is this thin line with persistence that sometimes we can try so hard that we become obsessed. When we add the believing component we can be persistent without being obsessed. :) Internal motivation is also a great component.
Thanks for all these wonderful tips. Loving blessings!

      Hi Andrea,

Exactly my friend, we have to persist, but at the same time, we have to believe and have faith that we will achieve our goals. There are many factors that contribute to success such as faith, belief, expecting the positive, planning, knowing what we want, asking God, persistence etc… They all compliment each other :)

  4. Hey Dia,

    Thanks for the awesome article!

You are right on point here, and i value the way you think. Persistance will be the key to anyones success. You will face many challenges in your life just like the Egyptians, which by the way was pretty horrible! The only way to overcome them is to stay persistant and focused on the goal at hand.

When you start letting yourself get side tracked or start losing focus thats bad for the progress you made. You will put yourself in reverse and start losing everything you worked blood, sweat, and tears to build from the ground up. Most importantly you”ll be waisting your time.

As i always say, thats somthing you never want to waist. Time is something you can never get back whenever its gone. That is why you must keep persisting and heading in the right direction. That way you will be making the most out of your time.

Personally, i value my time like no other. I dont want to let a second go by without working to better my positioning. This mnight sound crazy, but sometimes im so focused I dont want to let time go by eatting or relaxing. Which would only help my productivity, but thats just how much i value my time!

    Thanks again!

    God bless,

    Dia,

Being persistant is extremely important and I am so glad you gave valid tips on how to do just that. To me persistence is from the birth of passion and purpose. It is easy to maintained focused if you are connected on a deeper level than just basic perception. I think persistence is one of the most important ingredients if you ever want to be successful at anything.

The Egyptians are a great example of modern day persistence. Look what they did in the odds they were facing.

    Great Job Dia.

Indeed, Dia. All great achievements require persistence. Anything worth doing requires thinking the unthinkable and creating ourselves anew… the world voice and our own Ego’s want anything but that. Persistence is required to break out of our stubborn habitual way of thinking into the realm of superlatively creative action.

  8. No question Dia, persistence is one of the great keys to life. Just look at bloggers. Most quit before they make it big. They just don’t have the burning desire to succeed and continue—they don’t persist. But then there are people like you Dia, who produce great content, week in and week out.

    Well done bud.

We often have a resistance to persistance Dia as we see problems and hassles as proof we’re on the wrong track. But to listen to our own instinct and trust the road we are on often leads to gold – just ask Roger Bannister, Nelson Mandela, or Edmund Hilary. The first thing to conquer is our own desire to walk away.

    Hi Dia,

I think facing our fears of a primary step to take in life. If we learn that we can overcome what used to prevent us from moving forward we become more persisent and resilient ni the face of obstacles. I also think we have to want something so badly that we simply won’t even consider giving up. When considering social revolutions there is a true power and energy behind the entire process that people see the outcome and know they are doing the right thing.

    • Dia says:

      Hi Joe,

Yep, for sure Joe, we do have to want something so badly to persist. Otherwise, if we don’t have strong desire and passion, most peopel would give up and will not persist. Each one of us has to find a goal that he/she wants more than anything in the world and persist until he/she gets it.

    Hi Dia,

Valuable post here, because I truly believe that persistence is the one thing that will get you there in the end. I think a lot of ‘failing’ has to do with not having enough persistence to keep on trying, persevere through adversity, and make it through victoriously.

Like you say,”As long as you are still alive, then there is a chance for success and you will succeed if you put your mind to it.” …and the situation that unfolded in Egypt is a great and inspiring example of this.

I also believe that your #2 is KEY to persistence; a strong desire will fuel persistence and make it easier to keep facing resistance.

Thanks for the inspiration Dia :)

  12. Thank Dia for a great post. I think it is a very good example in what the Egypt people did. Persistence is the key. When we come up against those obstacles that is when we have to be more persistant and when success can be just around that corner.
    Thanks for the reminders.
