How play station 3 can help you reach any life goal!
Note: This is a guest post from Farouk at 2knowmyself.com
Sounds like a strange title huh?
How can play station 3 help you reach any life goal!!
Here is how it can happen.
I love play station 3 and I sometimes spend hours in front of it. Whenever I lose a game, just like anybody else, I press continue and I give it another try.
The average video game lover might try 10 or 20 times before he decides that he will give up and continue later on.
In fact those people never give up forever but they decide that they will take a rest to come back later.
If you ever played with video games try to watch your behavior and you will discover that you make at least 10 to 20 attempts each day in order to win the game.
So what does this has to do with life goals??
Ask any successful person in the world and he will tell you that the real secret to success is trying and trying until you reach what you want.
But if the secret is known to everybody then why don’t people do it?
Moreover, why do people apply the secret when it comes to video games but never apply it when it comes to real life?
Simply because:
- After Each failed attempt you waste a lot of time: Unlike in video games where you press continue right away you might stay broken and down for weeks if not months after one failed attempt. Had you just pressed continue quickly you would have reached your goals faster.
- You don’t believe that you will do it: Unlike in video games where you believe that sooner or later you will complete that game you don’t have faith in yourself when it comes to real life.
- You don’t learn: Whenever someone tries a new video game he usually makes lots of funny mistakes before he learns how to play the game. Now when it comes to real life people who fail form limiting beliefs and stay helpless instead of trying to learn the skills that they need.
In short if you want to reach all of your life goals then think of life as a big game and do the following:
1) Keep trying and trying (press continue all the time)
2) Keep learning the skills you lack else you will be wasting your time
3) Believe that you will do it

Hi Farouk,
Very nice post my friend. You drew an excellent analogy over here.
Indeed we can learn a lot from playing play stattion such as to keep thriving and moving forward and never giving up. It also helps us to be not negatively attached to the outcome. Great post my friend and thank you for posting here

I just wish we had like a million second chances and lives like in a video game. But, I guess then we wouldn’t learn. Life is full of second chances I guess. I know I’VE been given PLENTY of them; and grateful for that.
What I’d pay for a button that caused me to jump or fly. Tap that baby and off you go. That’d be awesome.

That’s what i was trying to say. Just like we can get second chances in video games we can get them in real life one we decide

The true spirit of success is an indomitable will which makes you keep trying, and each time with much more strength and confidence that this time you will be able to make it. And video game consoles can be a good place to take a practice test of your will power.

You are right Anthony
you know what, from a psychological point of view video games can teach people how to not give up if they used them properly
Thanks for your comment and keep in touch
Its not just about giving up, its about staying firm in your resolutions and having a tendency to make untiring attempts, no matter what or no matter how many, because each time your chances to succeed will increase.

yes you are right
So true Dia. In my house, we have a Wii but the desire and persistence to win is the same – just like in real life.
Alex
you can now play whenever you want and if someone told you what you are doing you can say “i am practicing personal development
) ”
thanks Alex
Farouk,
Very nice post! This is wonderful comparison. Any game that requires skill and expertise will be certain to test our patience and persistence. It will require we practice and learn from our mistakes. This is a wonderful life philosophy to hold as well.
Thank you So much for your Comment Joe

Hey Farouk,
When my life feels like it is going in the “wrong direction” I say out loud, “reset.” That means from that point on it’s a new game and the past is forgotten about.

Farouk,
I love this post just as much as I like video games and really, really like video games. I really enjoyed the way you brought something that a lot of people can relate to and applied it to our lives. I can attest to button smashing through levels but never really used that samed concept of learning through life. Great article.
I am always glad to come across you in the blogsphere Frank
thank you for your comment, keep in touch please pal
Nice analogy, I can’t say it would work for me because I seldom play video games and when I do I give up. But I do understand the message when it comes to life goals. We could almost apply any activity that consumes us and use that determination for other goals.

Hi Todd
its ok if you don’t play video games, that wasn’t the aim of the article hehehe
yes, just as you said , its important to have determination in order to get what you want
That was a wonderful analogy to help video game addicts reach their goals. We may or may not succeed in our attempt, but still the happiness of trying does stay with us for ever and so do the compliments given by others.

Farouk, how true it is, man! I remember playing that old Super Mario Bros. game on the Nintendo Entertainment System. I kept coming back and coming back until I beat that mess! Come to think of it, my wife and I spent WEEKS playing the new Wii Super Mario Bros. until we got all the golden stars. I guess there’s a lot to learn from this.
Dia, hope you’re doing well! Take care, bro!

Love it!
Hey Farouk. You bring a very good analogy here. I was drawn to read your article after noticing the excellent title. In my humble opinion, we just have to believe on what we do and always dare to learn new things everyday to gain success. Thanks for sharing this knowledge.

Nice metaphor, Farouk. Indeed life plays out like many games and is not intended to be pain and suffering. Moving onward and upward toward our goals should be as simple and impersonal as hitting “continue” when we make a mistake.
