Do you suffer from low self-esteem?

Do people treat you harshly that you have lost the love for yourself?  What about your self esteem?  Is it high or low?

Children grow up loving and appreciating themselves. Without give in it any thought, they behave as they are gifted and capable of achieving whatever they want. However, between the ages 2-6, they start doubting themselves from the thousands of negative remarks they receive from their family and friends.

You were no different than the rest of the children. When you were born, you didn’t pay attention to any of the negativity around you, but as you started to grow, you started to get negatively affected by the thousands of NOs you received.

The past and your lack self-esteem

Most of our feelings of lack of self esteem stem from our past. If you are someone who were treated badly as a child from your parents, friends, or relatives, then the chances are your self-worth got affected by their treatment to you. You also probably started to avoid social situations and became afraid of rejection.

What you need to realize is that the past can’t be changed, but you can change your attitude towards it. You don’t have to let past experiences and past treatments affect your worth and your self-esteem.

Boosting your self-esteem

There are many methods that you can use to improve your self-esteem and self-worth. While there is no way for me to list all of them in this post, I will list one powerful tip and that is you need to begin assessing your weaknesses and strengths.

Ask yourself:

What am I good at?

What are my strengths?

What are my weaknesses?

What am I afraid of?

Then, when you recognize your strong points, you need to work on maintaining and enhancing them. When you also recognize your weak points, you need to come up with a plan to change whatever you are doing and start improving your self-image.

When you genuinely begin to understand yourself more than you do now, you will be on your way to building and boosting your self-esteem.

  1. Identifying your strengths is a good start to overcoming low self esteem. I also like to celebrate my successes. I find it helps to look at all the good things I’ve done.
