Do you dwell on your problems 24 hours a day?

Do you dwell on problems 24 hours a day?

Do you have daily stress in your life? How do you deal with stress? Do you think about your problems all the time?

Many people think of the problems and daily stress that they get from working many hours and from life’s challenges, which is why it is crucial and necessary to take some time to rest and relax at least one day a week to revitalize yourself.

I read a story where one professor was giving a lecture on how to control daily problems and stress in life. He raised a glass of water with his hands and asked his listeners, “What do you think is the weight of this glass of water?” His audience answers ranged between 50 gm to 500 gm.

The professor then said that the weight for this glass does not matter and that the weight depends on how long he will carry the glass of water. He went on to explain that if he stays carrying the glass of water for a minute, nothing would happen, but if he stays carrying it for over an hour or two, he will start noticing the weight in his hand. The longer he stays carrying the glass of water, the heavier the weight will be for him.

The moral of the story is that the longer you keep focusing on your problems, the more chance you will have to end up destroying your health, life and you could go into depression. What you have to do is stop focusing on your problems 24 hours a day and instead look for solutions. If you have a problem at work, learn not to bring it home with you as this will affect you and your family. You have to realize that your thoughts control your emotions and your emotions are the result of your thoughts. You can not have negative emotions if you haven’t thought negative thoughts first. Learn to choose positive thoughts that will help you achieve your goals just like an artist chooses which colors to use for the paintings.

Always remember what Winston Churchill said about self talk and the power of attitude, “attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.”

Dia – Nice article on the pondering of problems. While I’m far from perfect, I’m kind enough to myself to not constantly focus on the stresses of life. I have enough to be happy about – which consumes me. Healthy children, healthy wife, heath for myself, financial stability (not wealthy!), and life in general. I have an easy way to get over the stresses of life…I simply think about the greatness that life gives me. Breath, family, friends, health.

Even if you lack in one of those categories, think about the wealth that the others bring. This is my approach to make each day count…be appreciative for what I have. Be appreciative that you have the ability to eliminate stress, if you chose to.

    Peace.

      Hi JK,

Exactly my friend, being in gratitude and appreciating everything we have is one of the best ways to reduce and eliminate stress in our daily life. Each one of us has many things that we should really be greatful for.

  2. You’ve got this exactly right. I have a natural tendency toward worry and negativity and I have to work to overcome it. I do pretty well most days. Negative thoughts can start a dangerous downward spiral.

    Good job.

    Gip

  3. Hi Dia! Great advice. I try to deal with stress by meditating daily. I’m not by nature a stressed person so that helps.

In terms of focusing on our problems, I have a saying that helps me out: The drama we create can keep us busy for a lifetime. When I let the story and drama I might be feeding into, my attitude gets back on track.

Thanks for the reminder on self-talk. Loving blessings!

      Hi Andrea,

Holding meditation sessions daily for sure helps, reduces our stress and helps to clear our minds and focus on what we want. It is one of the best methods used to reduce and eliminate negativity.

It so true how much control our thoughts have over us. We don’t have to be victims of habit though. I used to be a brooder. It is a hard concept to wrap around my head about changing how I think. I ask myself, if is this worth worrying about, is this really something that should upset me so much? Asking myslef these questions really help me stay on track.

      Hi Dandy,

This is a good questions that you ask yourself. When we ask ourselves such question, we find that we worry is not going to change anything, so might as well focus on the solutions and the positivity in every situation.

I can relate to this post.
I read somewhere that we may allow ourselves 3 mins (OK, 5 if we must!)every day to worry. At the end of that time we should either
a)focus on a distraction activity or
    b)take a step towards finding a solution.
I have a problem to sort out right now but I’m not going to carry it around with me until it’s too heavy.I’m glad I read this as it’s alerted me to what to do next!

    • Dia says:

      Hi Linda,

Yes Wayne Dyer also suggest that we specifiy specific time for worry and during that time, we can worry about anything we want. Afterwords, we should just focus on the solutions and positivity. Once we start to focus on the solutions, then we know we are on the right path.

  6. Dia: Great advice and so true. What we focus on really does matter and although we shouldn’t deny our emotions and responses, we should definitely manage through them and not just allow our issues to consume our attention and focus. Loved the quote you shared from Winston Churchill. Attitude definitely does matter.

    • Dia says:

      Hi Sibyl,

Exactly, we should focus on the positivity my friend and manage through negativity. Once we realize that focusing on negativity doesn’t do us any good, we should start looking for solutions.
